Edna Rose Jones was a gift from God given to the late Vernell and Annabelle (McClendon) Burns, Sr. on Monday, November 11, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was also called from Fort Smith to take her eternal rest on Thursday, May 13, 2021. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Jones, Sr.; her son, Harry Lee Jones, Jr.; two brothers, Vernell “Pops” Burns, Jr. and William “51” Burns; her sister, Verna “Kaye-Kaye” McGhee Ellingberg, and her best friend, Helen Carter.

Edna was educated in the Fort Smith School System, and she graduated from Lincoln High School Class of 1964. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She attended Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. A. J. Parish for many years until she joined Christ for the World under the leadership of Prophet Bobby Hogan for over 20 years. She was a member of many organizations in the community, but her favorite was Our Father’s Heart Ministry. She was employed at Rheem Manufacturing, Inc. of 20 years before retiring in 2009. She was also employed with Riverside Furniture Corporation for 17 years.

Edna married the love of her life, Harry Lee Jones, Sr., on Tuesday, July 2, 1974. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. She never met a stranger and was always concerned about others and loved taking care of others. She truly had a “Heart of Gold”. Not only would she open her heart, but she would also open her home to people. She loved going to sporting events religiously at Northside High School and University of Arkansas supporting the youth in the community. Her impact in this community could truly never be put into words. She was not only a fan; she was a serious supporter. If any youth would ask her to come and watch them play, she would attend without hesitation. Football And basketball were her favorite sports, and Allen Iverson was her favorite player.

Edna was a pillar in the community of Fort Smith that touched so many lives. She once took in a young man from Gary, Indiana while he was playing basketball at Westark Community College (University of Arkansas at Fort Smith) who her son, Dave, connected with competing during his high school days. She loved the interaction with people in the community while attending games. She had an unforgettable smile that will never be forgotten (Dave has that same smile). People would always let Dave know, “I saw your mother at the game last night”.

Edna, you might be gone, but you will never be forgotten. We will always treasure and remember you in our lives. WE LOVE YOU!!!

Edna leaves to cherish her memories her children, Dave (Shanika) Jones of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Eric (Anna) Jones of Richmond, Virginia, Carl (Fregina) Jones of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Shaun (Akilah) McGhee of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karen Jones of Richmond, Virginia, Susan (Darryl) Burns-Anderson of Fort Smith, Arkansas, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and a host of many other relatives and friends.
