Jackie “Jack” was born on December 18, 1947, to Ms. Marie Percell and Mr. Isaiah Jesse in Clinton, Arkansas. From the very beginning, Jack carried the warmth and charm that would define his life.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father; his baby sister, Crystal; his grandfather and grandmother; and his cousin, Eula.
At an early age, Jack gave his life to Christ and joined Union Baptist Church, where his faith began to take root and guide him throughout his life.
Jack graduated from Pine Street High School in 1965. During his time there, he served as class president, played both football and basketball, and was an active member of the Student Council and Library Club. He took great pride in his class and truly enjoyed planning and attending class and school reunions. After high school, Jack attended UAPB for one semester before answering the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy on January 7, 1966. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1968, with the rank of E-3. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.
After his discharge, Jack settled in California, beginning in Long Beach in 1969 and later making his home in Los Angeles, where he remained until 2011.
Jack worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier from 1969 to 1979. He later worked for Atlantic Record Company as a limousine driver from 1980 to 1985, and then for the Sheraton and Marriott hotels from 1986 to 2001, where he served as both a limousine driver and Bell Captain. Following 9/11, Jack appeared in a commercial encouraging Americans to travel again and help restore a sense of normalcy across the country. President Bush also appeared in that commercial. In October 2001, Jack founded Jack’s Sedan Service. Through hard work, integrity, and his gift for connecting with people, he built a thriving business, which he later sold in 2012.
In May 1993, Jack met the love of his life, Jessica Ford, in Union City, California. Their love blossomed, and they were united in marriage on April 27, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and deep friendship.
Jack never met a stranger. He had a natural way of making everyone feel welcome, seen, and valued. He was kind, genuine, and the true definition of a Southern gentleman. Once you became friends with Jack, you were a friend for life. When I moved to Los Angeles in 1995, I was introduced to what felt like hundreds of people, all proud to say they were Jack’s friend. That was just who he was.
Jack leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Jessica; his sisters, Joyce (Al) Harper of Conway, Helen Vicks of Little Rock, and Terri Scott of Los Angeles; his nieces, Erika Percell and Candice of Aurora, Colorado; his nephew, Jeffery of Aurora, Colorado; his brothers-in-law, Leroy (Renee) Ford of Oakland, California, Rowland (LaDonna) Ford of Henderson, Nevada, Patrick (Tomeka) Price of Porter, Texas, and Donald Richardson of Chandler, Arizona; two of his favorite cousins, Ruby Jean Carolina and LeKebra Greenlaw of Conway; and his dear friends, Larry Price of Conway, Mikell Ballou of Los Angeles, and Gary (Ramona) Holland of Los Angeles. He also leaves behind a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Veasley Funeral Home.
Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2026, 11:00am at Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, 601 Spruce St, Conway, Arkansas 72032
