In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Perkins Family. Fred's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Fred Perkins.

Fred (aka Friendly Fred) Allen Perkins was born on August 25, 1960, to the late Odessa Perkins and Fred Smith in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He departed this life on July 31, 2024.
Fred attended Fort Smith Public Schools and graduated from Fort Smith Northside High School in 1978.

Fred enlisted in the United States Army on July 26, 1978. During his military career he earned: Army Commendation Medal, Army Service Ribbon, two (2) Army Good Conduct Medals, and a Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon. He was also a member of the Fort Cavazos (Hood) Military Boxing Team. He was a Contestant for the Eastern Olympic Boxing Trials in 1980. He was the National U.S. Amateur Boxing Federation Champion in 1981; All Army Champion, Interservice Champion, FORSCOM Champion, National Sports Festival (Gold Medal); Bronze Gloves, Silver Gloves and Military World Games (Silver Medal).

Fred leaves to cherish his memories; two (2) children: Elana Perkins of Van Buren, Arkansas and Patrick Perkins of Austin, Texas. Three (3) siblings: Beverly Martens, Cecil (Lucretia) Perkins, and Ann (Virl) Brewer of Fort Smith. Five (5) grandchildren: Tatianna Perkins, Zannaia Perkins, Andee’anna Perry, Kay’anna Price and Adam Perkins.
Walk through visitation for family and friends will be Friday August 16, 2024, 11:00am to 7:00pm family hour 6-7pm at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday August 17, 2024, 11:00am Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church 910 North 7th St., Fort Smith, AR.
Burial and final resting place: National Cemetery 522 Garland Ave., Fort Smith, Arkansas on Monday August 19, 2024, at 9:00am.
