In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Freeman Family. Doris' earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Doris Freeman.

Doris Jean Freeman was born on August 29, 1944, in Clarksville, AR to Ruby Lee (Smith) May and William “Sonny” May. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather, Rev. W.M. Murry; (4) sisters: Patricia Alexander, Bertha Jefferson, Linda Richardson and Janice Bailey; (3) brothers, William May, Wayne Murry and Alan Murry.
Doris graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the pastorage of her stepfather, Rev. Murry.
Doris was an employee of Dixie Cup for a period of time. Born to a previous union was her only son, Howard Lynn Massey. She has been faithfully married to Timothy Freeman for over 55 plus years.
Doris Jean was loving, kind, compassionate and forgiving. She loved the Lord with her whole heart. Then, there was love for her family...from being a caregiver of her grandparents to interacting with her great-nephews.
Doris would open her home with love to family and visitors and was always there to help. She was an amazing homemaker! Not only did she love you, but she would also comfort you with her food. Doris loved to cook!! Her comfort foods were a pot of greens, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, roast covered in gravy and cornbread. To top it off was her sweet potato pie or pound cake! (smile) DORIS JEAN LOVED HER FAMILY!!!
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Timothy Freeman; one (1) son, Howard (Carrie) Massey of Little Rock, AR; two (2) bonus children, Timothy (Kimberly) Freeman of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Betty (Phillip) Wilson of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; three (3) siblings: Brenda (Greylan) Williams of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Michael (Suliana) Murry of Oklahoma City, OK. and Deloris (a/k/a Tilly) (John) Thomas of Midwest City, Oklahoma; nine (9) grandchildren; fourteen (14) great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A special Thank You to her caregiver, Terrion Sudds.
Walk-thru visitation for family and friends will be held Friday April 10, 2026; 10:00am to 6:00pm (family hour 5:00-6:00pm) Rowell-Parish Mortuary Chapel 611 North 9th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901. Celebration of life service will be Saturday April 11, 2026; 10 o'clock a.m. Northside C.O.G.I.C 4420 Kelley Hwy., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
Burial and final resting place will be Oak Cemetery 1401 S. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
