Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Colon Pierce was born on July 27, 1933, in Lincoln County, Mississippi, to the late Henry and Naomi Pierce. He made his peaceful transition on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the age of 93.

Colon was raised in a Christian home. The family were members of St. Paul on the River Baptist Church, where he and his siblings were educated at St. Paul School. Colon joined the United States Army alongside his twin brother, Carl, in 1952 and was deployed in 1953. During his military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in February 1956. Upon his return from the Army, he married Ruth Wilson, and their union was blessed with two children while they resided in Cleveland, Ohio.

Colon eventually followed his brothers to Conway, Arkansas, where he worked for Carrier Corporation in Maumelle, Arkansas, for several years before retiring when the company closed in 1997. Conway is also where he met Elmira Baker-Britton in 1986, and the two were united in marriage on January 6, 1995. Although he was baptized at a young age, as an adult he recommitted his life to Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Branch Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Raynor, now led by Pastor Artee Williams.

During their marriage, gardening became Colon and Elmira's shared passion. Friends and family traveled from near and far to gather fresh vegetables from their garden. In addition to gardening, his favorite pastimes included fishing, sitting in the garage, affectionately known as "The King's Workshop," working on projects or simply listening to music, laughing and talking with family and friends, and landscaping. He especially loved mowing and caring for his lawn, and neighbors often admired how meticulously manicured he kept it.

Colon was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Naomi Pierce; his brothers, Oris, Beau James, Vodra, Henry, Julius, Oscar, Claude, Carl, and Sam; and his five sisters, Beulah Clark, Naomi Houston, Alma Chambers, Mattie Perry, and Marie Scott.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Elmira; three daughters, Doloris Thomas (Vincent) of France, Dr. Colette Burnette (Daarel) of Austin, Texas, and Julie Williams (Jonathan) of California; two stepchildren, Billy Britton and Yvonne Britton (Myra); six grandchildren, Simon, Anais, Daarel, Daana, Kira, and Tanner; two great-grandchildren, Marcus and Maceo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends whose lives were forever touched by his gentle spirit.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, August 7, 2026, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, 601 Spruce St, Conway, Arkansas 72032.

Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, 2:00pm at Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, 601 Spruce St, Conway, Arkansas 72032.
