In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Jones Family. Avis's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Avis Jones.

Avis Annetta Jones was born on October 25, 1956, to the late Duke Augusto Barker and the late Mary Marie Berger-Wilson in Ogden, Utah. She departed this life on July 22, 2024, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Avis attended Fort Smith Public Schools and graduated from the University of Arkansas with her bachelor's in science of nursing.
She spent her early years in Ogden, Utah with her beloved Aunt, Pearl Wilson until her untimely passing. Thereafter, at the age of four (4), she returned to Fort Smith, Arkansas and later attended Derricks Chapel AME Church in Van Buren, Arkansas. She spent her life breaking through barriers and spent the majority of her career leading several Departments at St. Edwards Hospital, Sparks Medical Center and Chapel Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation, as a devoted Nurse. Avis enjoyed spending time with family and friends; along with crocheting, watching Westerns, Sanford and Son, dancing and cooking her children's favorite dish “Spaghetti”.
She leaves to cherish her memories: five (5) siblings: Juliana Booker, Charles Wilson, Anne Wilson, Duke A. Barker II and Jarrid H. Barker; five (5) children: Hannah Young of Atlanta, Georgia, Isaac Hardgrave, Emily Hardgrave, Nancy Jones and Nelson Jones all of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Twelve (12) grandchildren: Elijah Logan, Isaiah Hardgrave, Daysha Minor, Makayla Hardgrave, Daviune Minor, Jr., Emilicia Minor, Noah Minor, Santiago Mosqueda Jones, Isabella Mosqueda Jones, Levi Williams, Mya Young and Evelyn Barbian Williams.
Along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and beloved friends: John Markley and Ms. Phyllis.
Walk through visitation for family and friends will be Thursday August 1, 2024, 11:00am to 4:30pm at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Celebration of Life Service will be Friday August 2, 2024, 11:00am at Life Church 1900 North 62nd St., Fort Smith, Arkansas.
