Dorothy's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Dorothy Dell Jones was born on September 27, 1934 in Alma, Arkansas to Zecila Mae Willis and L. J. Harris. She was also married to Henry A. Jones who preceded her death along with daughters Venita Parker and Patricia Ann Harris Tippens, and brother Melvin Jones. Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt. She was well known in the community. She devoted her life to her children.
Dorothy was a housekeeper for many years. Then she worked at O.K. Foods, Inc. for several years before deciding to retire. After a brief retirement, she returned to work at Tyson Foods, Inc.
Dorothy was a dedicated member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith,
Arkansas. She was best known at church as “Momma Dorothy” or “Momma Dee”. She served on the Usher Board, and was a proud member of the Missionary Society and active member of Circle Remembrance Club.
Dorothy too the saying “It takes a village to raise a child” to heart. There was never a
homeless or hungry child that she wouldn’t take in. She was truly a mother of all mothers.
Dorothy Dell Jones leaves to cherish her loving memory, five sons, Victor Medlock of
Texarkana, TX, Michael Medlock of Marianna, AR, Willie Medlock of Fort Smith, AR, Rodney (Jennifer) Harris of Grand Prairie, TX, Terry Harris of Fort Smith, AR; five daughters, Felicia (Tony) Medlock, Jeanette (Robert) Alston, LaDonna (Walter) Bruce, Gina (Kevin) Trimble, Etoshia Esaw all of Fort Smith, AR; two special sisters, Onie Gilyard of Kansas City, MO, Louise Robinson of Fort Smith, AR; one adopted son Steven Moton of Fort Smith, AR; two adopted daughters, Jackie Rogers of Pine Bluff, AR, Shirl (Joey) Page of Fort Smith, AR; thirty-seven grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, 11:00 AM at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 4225 High St., Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Public viewing will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Rowell-Parish Mortuary, 611 N. 9th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Family visitation will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at St. James Missionary Baptist Church.
Committal service and final resting place will be at Washington Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
