In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Perry family. Hazel's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Veasley Funeral Home. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mrs. Hazel Perry.

Mrs. Hazel Lee McFarlin Howard Perry was born June 21, 1925 in Conway, Arkansas to John McFarlin and Mary Knox McFarlin. Hazel was the sixth child of eight children. Mrs. Perry transitioned from her earthly tabernacle to meet her heavenly father on January 1, 2017. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lehmin Perry; son Carl Howard; granddaughters, Traci Garth and Regina Howard Freeman; brothers, Elmer, Carl, Eugene, Johnny and Julius; sister Arlee Pearson and a devoted nephew, Bobby Walton. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Union Baptist Church in Conway, Arkansas. She joined Zion Temple Church of God in Christ under Bishop Frank Anderson and later in life she united with Mt. Siani Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Earnest Sweat III until her health failed. She graduated from Pine Street High School in Conway, Arkansas. Hazel furthered her education by attending and graduating from St. Vincent School of nursing and receiving her LPN License. She worked as an LPN at Conway Human Development Center and St. Anthony Hospital in Morrilton. In addition to being a LPN, Hazel acquired her cosmetology license in Kansas City, Missouri. She helped pave the way for other Black medical professionals by being the first Black LPN to work at Conway Regional Hospital. Several of her grandchildren followed in her footsteps in the medical field. Her grandchildren, Charles Howard, MD, works at St. Vincent Hospital in Morrilton, Arkansas; Regina Howard Freeman is a RN for the County of Los Angeles as a Public Health nurse in Harbor City, California; Karen Howard is a Nutritionist in Dallas, Texas; Kim Howard works as a Community Health Technician in Dallas, Texas; Monica Rogers works as a Private Home Healthcare Professional in Dallas, Texas and Candice Perry works at Independent Living Services in Conway, Arkansas. Hazel is an example of a woman who worked outside the home and still took care of home. The family is grateful to God for keeping her 91 years! Hazel married Luther Howard, Sr. and to this union four children were born. Hazel later married Lehmin Perry and spent fifty nine wonderful years with him. Hazel and Lehmin had one son, Jerry Perry. She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Luther (Terry) Howard, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, Albert (Ann) Howard, Jerry (Betty) Perry both of Conway, Arkansas; one daughter, Rosemary (John) Cummings of Conway, Arkansas; one sister, Mary Lee McFarlin of Conway, Arkansas; two sister-in-laws, Marzelle McFarlin of Merriman, Kansas, Ella McFarlin of Kansas City, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 6pm-7pm at Veasley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 13, 2017, 10:00am at True Holiness Saints Center, 198 Hwy 286 East, Conway, Arkansas 72032. Interment will be held Friday, January 13, 2017, 1:00pm at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave., Sherwood, Arkansas 72120.
