Michelle McClendon was born to LuBertha Preston and Jarrett Williams on November 6, 1964 in St. Louis, Missouri. Michelle was the third oldest sibling of seven. Michelle’s mother, father, one sister, Loretta Thomas; one brother, Tony Preston;and one brother-in-law, Louis Thomas preceded her in death. Michelle was a beautiful and loving person, and a mother to more than just her biological children. Her life serves an example that by changing yourself, you can change the world around you. Teaching all those who knew her that their current circumstances don’t have to define who you are, but more importantly, your reaction to those circumstances. (Proverbs 24:16 “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”) Michelle was an over comer and an inspiration, with a kind of resilience that was otherworldly. And she would instill that mental toughness in her children: Jewiya, Latonia, Jasmine, Valencia, and Tyus. Michelle was an activist in her own right, with a smile and a beautiful singing voice that healed her community. The positive influence she had on those around her will be felt for generations to come. (2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”) We love and miss you Michelle. She had a strong belief and faith in God. She was baptized in 2018 under the leadership of Pastor Claval Hunter at the Tabernacle of Praise SDA Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Michelle was a gifted person and had a talent for cooking and singing. She was educated in the St. Louis public school system. She enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to gospel music. Her children were her heart beats. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Michelle traveled for many years to St. Louis to assist in the wellness of her mother. She will be truly missed. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, four daughters, Jewiya Foy, Latonia Rougely, Jasmine Carter, and Valencia Mix; one son, Tyus Dokes, Jr.; one son-in-law, Bryant Rougely; four granddaughters, Harlem, Brooklyn, Liberty, and Justice; two grandsons, Kaiden and Kristopher; three sisters, Carmeline, Olivia and Theresa; two brothers, Jeff and Carlos; one brother-in-law, Michael, and a host of family and friends.
Family and friends walk through visitation will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm at Jacksonville Baptist Temple, 520 Marshall Rd., Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076.
