In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Shorter family. Lesly’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Veasley Funeral Home. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mr. Lesly Shorter.

Lesly Shorter was born on November 27, 1947 to Willie & Elnora Peters-Shorter in Peoria, Illinois. At a young age he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. Was reared by mother and her husband Elmer Wilson. Lesly attended Dunbar & Horace Mann High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. He finished his education in Job Corp and became a truck driver, a job he truly loved. He became a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Billy Simmons. He became a deacon and later a licensed minister in 1979.


He was united in Holy Matrimony on April 29, 1978 to Gloridel Butler, and with this union three children was born. Jalon Christopher who preceded him in death, Kevin Jeremiah and Gabrielle Yvette. Lesly became the pastor of New Testament Baptist Church in 1990 and continued to pastor for 15 years. Later he became a member of True Holiness Saints Center under the leadership of Pastor E.C. Maltbia. Stories are still being told of the wisdom and knowledge he shared in the Men’s Sunday school class. Besides preaching the word of God, he took joy in riding motorcycles and horses until his health would not allow him. He was part of the “Heavenly Riders” where he was affectionately known as the Regulator. He enjoy spending time with family and friends. He loved to talk and never met a stranger. He also, loved being outside in nature. During the time he was sick going in and out of the hospital he would still continue to share God’s word to the doctors and nurses. They always expressed how nice and pleasant it was to work with him. At the end of his journey here on earth he reminded his children to stay close and remember that he loved them dearly.


Lesly was preceded in death by his parents; one son; one sister Naomi Shorter-Powell and two brothers R.J. Shorter and Willie (Bill) Shorter.


He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gloridel Shorter; son, Kevin Shorter of Conway, Arkansas; daughter, Gabrielle (Brandon) Reeves of Conway, Arkansas; three granddaughters, Danielle Reeves of Conway, Arkansas, Destiny Reeves of Conway, Arkansas Desirae Reeves of Conway, Arkansas; six brothers, Stevie Shorter of Chicago, Illinois, Larry Shorter of Little Rock, Arkansas, Alvin (Doris) Wilson of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Perry Wilson of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Ricky Wilson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Scottie Wilson of Little Rock, Arkansas; four sisters, Viola Smith, Wilma Piggee, Elma (James) Bowens, Gloria (Willie) Moore all of Little Rock, Arkansas; six sister-in-laws, Mamie Shorter of Chicago, Illinois, Thelma Shorter of Little Rock, Arkansas, Gloria Williams of Hollandale, Mississippi, Agnes Wilson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Joyc Butler-Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas, Elizabeth Butler of Indio, California; last but not least, one brother-in-law, Cal Butler of Indio, California and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Family and Friends visitation will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm at Veasley Funeral Home.


Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, 11:00am at True Holiness Saints Center, 198 Hwy 286 East, Conway, Arkansas.


Committal service and final resting place will be held at Robinson Cemetery, Conway, Arkansas.
