In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Black Family. Kandace's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Kandace Danielle Black.

With profound sadness and hearts full of love, we celebrate the life of Kandace Danielle Spencer Black, a devoted mother, beloved daughter, cherished sister, faithful friend, and woman of God whose impact will live on for generations.
Kandace was born on October 19, 1979, to Kimberly “Connie Sue” Mays and Jerome Spencer. She was raised with a strong foundation of faith, love, and family that guided her throughout her life. She was also blessed by the love and support of her stepfather, James F. Mays, whose presence helped shape the remarkable woman she became.
A proud native of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Kandace attended Parker and Sutton Elementary Schools, Kimmons Junior High School, and Northside High School. She excelled both academically and athletically as a basketball player and cheerleader. Her dedication earned her a basketball scholarship to WestArk Community College before continuing her education at Florida A&M University.
Above all else, Kandace loved the Lord and sought to live a life that reflected her faith. Her strength, compassion, and unwavering trust in God carried her through life’s joys and challenges and inspired those around her.
Her greatest joy was being a mother to her children: Jada, Jeremiah, Jordan, Johanna, and Justice Black. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to motherhood, creating a home filled with love, faith, encouragement, and unwavering support. The remarkable young people they have become are a reflection of the countless sacrifices, prayers, and lessons she poured into them throughout their lives.
Kandace possessed a servant’s heart and was known for encouraging others, offering wisdom, and helping those in need, even during her own difficult seasons. She found joy in caring for her family, cooking, watching HGTV, pursuing health and wellness, and creating lasting memories with those she loved.
She shared a special bond with her siblings, Robert Kursh Jr. and Marian Kursh. To Robert, she was affectionately known as “Bullwinkle.” To Marian, she would always be simply “Sissy.” These names reflected a lifetime of love, guidance, laughter, and unwavering support.
She also cherished her nieces and nephews, who brought her tremendous joy and held a special place in her heart.
Kandace was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Marion Craft, Patsy Craft, and Frances Williams, whose love, guidance, and influence helped shape the strong and compassionate woman she became. Their memories remained a treasured part of her life and a source of strength throughout her journey.
Kandace leaves to cherish her memory her children, Jada, Jeremiah, Jordan, Johanna, and Justice Black (Frisco, TX); her parents, Kimberly and James Mays (Fort Smith, AR); her siblings, Robert Kursh Jr. (Fort Smith, AR) and Marian Kursh (McKinney, TX); her nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones whose lives were forever enriched by knowing her. Her life was a blessing, Her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure
Walk-through visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday June 19, 2026; 10:00am to 6:00pm (family hour 5pm-6pm) Rowell-Parish Mortuary Chapel 611 North 9th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
Celebration of life service will be held Saturday June 20, 2026; 11:00am New Life C.O.G.I.C 1808 North Greenwood Ave. Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
