James Earl Cole was born on March 19, 1945, to Dewey and Helen Cole in Dardanelle, Arkansas. He was the second of four children.  The family later relocated to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where James attended Howard Elementary and Lincoln High School. James held various positions with local companies, primarily in factory work. However, he was best known for his expertise in construction and concrete work. His diverse skills ranged from blowing glass and working on farms to being employed by a prominent jewelry company, truly making him a jack of all trades.

On November 26, 1976; James married Brenda Owens, and they settled in Alma, Arkansas. Their union was blessed with one (1) child: Lynn Cole.

James had a passion for sports, grilling, and frying fish. He had a sweet tooth, enjoying cakes, pies, cobblers, cookies, and a big cold glass of milk, with ice cream being a daily favorite. His love for serving others was evident in his dedication to leading the kitchen team for the Men’s Monthly Prayer Breakfast and assisting with mowing the lawn at Lewis Cemetery until his health declined.   Although he did not attend church regularly, James assured his family of his faith in Jesus Christ. His service to the church and community, including caring for the church grounds and participating in the Prayer Breakfast, was done for the Lord. He often said, “God has been good to me.”

James transitioned to his eternal rest on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dewey and Helen Cole; and his sisters: Carlyn Clemons and Mary Cole-Fegans. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Brenda Cole; his sister: Helen Bobo; his children: Lynn Cole Pepper (Corey) and Brody Cole. Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
