In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Brown family. William’s earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Elder William Brown.

Elder William Eugene Brown, 69, was born August 30, 1950 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to J. W. (Wes) Brown and Mary B. Pryor. He departed this life January 3, 2020 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Russellville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Wesley and a daughter, Anissa Dawson.

Elder Brown attended Catholic School in his early childhood and teenage years. Later he attended the historic Lincoln School. He graduated from Northside School in 1968. He was known by many as “Downtown Billy Brown.”

Elder Brown worked for Ayers furniture, Whirlpool, and Burger King. After leaving the Catholic Church, he joined Northside Church of God in Christ. Elder Brown served in several capacities. He served as Pastor of Poole’s Temple Church of God in Christ, Paris, Arkansas. He was also the Assistant Pastor of Northside Church of God in Christ. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, Pastor’s Aid President, Funeral Committee President, and Choir member. Elder Brown was also the founder of the Shekinah Glory Outreach Ministry.

Elder Brown leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Jacqueline Brown of Russellville, Arkansas; one son, William Eugene Wilson (Esther) of Copperas Cove, Texas; two step sons, Jerry Thompson, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Jerome Thompson (Jessica) of Pottsville, Arkansas; one daughter, Alexis Dion Brown of Copperas Cove, Texas, one sister, Willie Faye Walker of Dallas, Texas; two nieces, Regina Dehoney of Dallas, Texas, and Kimberly Finley of Forney, Texas, 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, and the Northside Family.

Elder Brown was a man of God. He loved God, his church, and his pastor. He was an excellent teacher and loved preaching and teaching. He made a positive impact on everyone he spoke with. He was a people person and loved everyone. January 3, 2020 he received his divine stamp that his work on earth was complete. He loved to laugh and make people laugh.

Visitation will be Friday, January 10, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.

Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Northside Church of God in Christ 4420 Kelley Highway Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.
