In profound sadness, the staff of Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. want to express our sincere condolences to the Gilbert family. Rose's earthly temple is now resting in the care of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Revelations 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying, neither shall their be anymore pain, for the former things are passed away." Be assured that in the days ahead you will surely gain strength from the memories of Mother Rose Gilbert.

Rose Mary Clark Gilbert’s life began on March 4, 1931, in Alma, Arkansas. She was the first of four children born to Rufus Clark and Velma Mahone Clark. She joined the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Alma at a very early age, and she began her formal education at the Booker Elementary School in Alma.

Later, Rose Mary moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she met and married the love of her life, Albert Allen Gilbert. Together they had five children: Shirley Ann, Albert Allen “Sonny” Jr., Glen Rufus, Sheila Renee, and Gregory Lee. This union flourished for 45 years until Albert’s death.

In Kansas City Rose Mary joined the Zion Grove Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. A. L. Johnson. After spending nearly 50 years in Missouri, Rose Mary returned to Arkansas to live in Fort Smith and to take care of her ailing Mother. She re-united with Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Alma and was honored as a Mother of the church.

Rose was noted for her kindness to others and also for her good home cooking. Psalms 23 was her favorite scripture, and she remained faithful to God, to her family, and to Zion until her passing on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, AR. Upon her final wishes, she will be interred beside her husband at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Virl Clark; two sisters Verda Mae and Patsy Inez; and one son Glen. She is survived by two sons Albert “Sonny” Gilbert Jr. of Kansas City, MO, and Gregory (Stephanie) Gilbert of Fort Smith, AR; two daughters Shirley Gilbert Williams and Sheila Gilbert both of Fort Smith, AR; seven grandchildren LaNique Gilbert, Denise Gilbert, Michael Thomas, Darin (Rika) Thomas, Nicole Thomas, and Myron Pendleton; seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary.

Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Zion Missionary Baptist Church 1115 Spring Street Alma, Arkansas 72921.

Committal service and final resting place will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 150 Muncie Road Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
