Ellis B. "Mutt" Shells, Sr., 90, of Little Rock, AR. was born April 2, 1925 to the late Willie Lee Shells, and Susie Heard-Shells. He was one of fifteen children born to this union. He received his formal education through Little Rock School District. He confessed a hope in Christ under the leadership of C.D. Edwards at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. He served as a member of the Inspirational Choir.

Ellis met and married his beloved wife Mary Louise Primes-Shells on April 9, 1962. To this union was born their daughter Angella Ellisa Shells-McCoy. He was a truly devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a Godly man who loved his family and who demonstrated strong leadership and compassion to help those in need. Ellis was employed by J. H. Hamilton Mill and Sheraton Hotels for many years. Then he served as a truck driver for the City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation until he retired.

On September 5, 2015, Ellis departed his earthly vessel to live in his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Lee Shells and Susie Heard-Shells; his beloved wife, Mary Louise Primes-Shells; his son Ellis B. Shells Jr.; granddaughter Anita Shells; ten siblings, Nathaniel, Willie, Jr., Robert, Herbert, Sr., Ulysses, William, Dorothy Goss, Ethel Washington, Rena Shells, and Mary Morrison.


He leaves to cherish his loving memory, one daughter Angella Ellisa Shells-McCoy; seven grandchildren; Gregory Ellis Jones, LeeAngelo Cedelle Jones, Darrius O’Neal Evans, Martinous Trammell, all of Little Rock, Arkansas, Michael Deon McCoy, and Miesha Yvonne McCoy of Panama City, Florida; Nine great-grandchildren, Kelli Ellisa Jones, Kaylee Nicole Jones, Tekeria Trammell, Karizma Trammell, Gregory Ellis Jones Jr., Martinous Trammell, Jr., Kaisey Angella Jones, Kynzleigh Rose Jones, Keiress Michelle Jones, Brandon Brown, Erika Brown, Tre'Shoughn Jones and host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He also leaves to cherish his memory a special nieces, Mary & Gail Edwards; special nephew, Jeffery Edwards, Sr., and a special granddaughter in-law to be, Johmanda Taylor.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015, 11:00am at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2501 S. Main St., Little Rock, AR. 72204. Family will receive friends from 6pm - 7pm at the church. Interment will be at Rest In Peace Memorial Gardens, Hensley, AR. immediately following service.
