When Death Occurs
When death occurs in your family, you will be faced with important task and decision making during a very difficult time. You may not know what to do or when to begin making arrangements. Bearing the responsibility can be overwhelming. Remember that you are not alone. Veasley Funeral Home is available 24 hours a day to assist you with the details and offer our guidance. We have compiled the following list to help guide you through the steps you will need to take when a death has occurred. One of our well trained funeral directors will help coordinate all of the funeral details to complete funeral arrangements.
After a death has occurred, notify Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. (501) 358-6300 (Conway) or Rowell-Parish Mortuary by calling (479) 782-9200 (Fort Smith).
The following are some questions that we may ask when you call:
*What is the full name of the deceased?
*What is the location of the deceased? (Hospital, Nursing Facility, Residence, etc.)
*What is your name, address, and telephone number?
*What is the name, address, and telephone number of the next-of-kin?
*Is there a pre-arranged funeral plan, life insurance, or burial policy?
We will then set an appointment time for you to come to the funeral home or we will come to the comfort of your home to complete the details of the funeral arrangements. We will also ask you to provide some items and information that will be necessary to complete the arrangements.
These items will include:
*Clothing for the deceased
*Social security card or number of the deceased
*The deceased birth date
*The deceased birth place
*The deceased parents names, including mother's maiden name
*The deceased highest level of education
*Marital status of the deceased
*Veteran's discharge papers (DD214)
*Photographs of the decease
*Cemetery information (if applicable)
*Any life insurance policy or paperwork (if applicable)
When I call, will someone come right away?
If you request immediate assistance, yes. If the family wishes to spend a short time with the deceased to say good-bye, that’s perfectly acceptable. Your funeral director will come when your time is right.
