At an early age Lillie devoted her life to Christ and joined Popular Creek Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Robert Vanderbilt. She remained faithful to God and church until her departure.

Lillie’s educational experience began in a one room school at Popular Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Her educational journey continued on to Immanuel High School where she graduated in 1963. The journey continued as she attended college, graduating in 1972 from UAPB formally known as Arkansas AM&N College with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education. Her most memorable experience was being honored by the State of Arkansas as Teacher of the Year in 1975 where she was affectionately known as “Miss Lillie” by her Students, Colleagues, Administrators and Parents.

Under God she was united in Holy Matrimony in 1980 to the late Benjamin Metcalf. Their love was true and vows completed til death as he preceded her in death. Others waiting to greet her are her loving parents, sisters LC & VC (twins), Dianna Lynn (all who died in infancy), Willie Mae Stigger, her only brother Percell Stigger and her daughter-in-love Antoinette Broady.
