Lucy Jane Gordon began her early journey on May 28, 1948 in Fort Smith, Arkansas as the first of eight blessings born to William Earl Gordon, Sr. and Annie Bell Gordon.  On January 26. 2020, after 71 years of laboring in the vineyard, Lucy peacefully departed her temporal vessel eager to receive her heavenly reward.

Lucy was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School and attended Westark Community College, now known as UAFS.  After graduation, she entered the medical field working the office of Dr. H. P.  McDonald until his relocation.  She was a dedicated employee concluding her careers upon retirement from Horizon Adolescent Treatment Center.

Lucy was a faithful Christian and a devoted life-long member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities.  Although she had no children of her own, Lucy was a surrogate mother to many.  She mothered and nurtured her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends throughout many generations.  She was a “ram in the bush” for the sick, hungry, helpless or distressed.

Lucy was a gracious, gentle, and poised woman whose smile radiated like the rising sun and whose calm demeanor soothed like the evening shadows.  She was a peacemaker and fence-mender who consistently strived to find harmony in all situations.  She was an elegant and stylish DIVA, who loved her cosmetics, perfumes, and lotions.  She loved to cook where spinach, okra, and chicken wings were always on the menu.

Lucy loved entertaining family and friends.  Her famous house parties were better than most country club affairs.  She delighted in Saturday mornings during her childhood on the front porch and relished Sunday afternoons in Mama Fannie’s backyard.  She was truly satisfied in the presence of family and friends.

Lucy is now reunited with her beloved parents; protective brother, William “Buddy Boy” Gordon, Jr.; two devoted sisters, Judy Ann Thomas and Patricia Lee Copeland who all preceded her in death.

Lucy leaves to cherish her loving sweet spirit, a brother, Edward (Minnie) Gordon; three sisters, Charlotte (Hilario) Galvez, Deborah (Michael, Sr.) Vann all of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Stephanie (Deryll) Gibson of Texarkana, Texas, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.

Public Viewing will be Friday, January 31, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rowell-Parish Mortuary 611 North 9th Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.

Celebration of life service will be held Saturday February 1, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church 4503 Young Street Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904.

Committal service and final resting place will be at the Washington Cemetery Fort Smith, Arkansas.
